The Jao Research Team is a collective of researchers, educators, and academics based out of the Department of Integrated Studies in Education in the Faculty of Education at McGill University
Broadly speaking, our research is motivated by the following goal: To improve the quality of mathematics and STE(A)M education. Given the critical role that they play in educational systems and students’ success, our research primarily focuses on teachers. Specifically, we explore teaching practices including cross-curricular/interdisciplinary, project-based, student-centred, and inquiry-based approaches to teaching and learning. We also investigate teacher education and professional development at both the pre-service and in-service levels, by examining the structures and opportunities within teacher education programs that support and hinder pre-service teacher development, and models of professional development that allow for continued growth once in the field.
